10 Punk Bands You Need To See Before You're Boring
6. The Distillers
The Distillers are arguably the most well-known female-fronted punk band that are still around today. With three studio albums under their wing and promises of a new record in the near future, these California punks are pillars of the genre, having been founded by lead singer and guitarist Brody Dalle in 1998.
Dalle’s rough and aggressive voice is instantly recognisable and has been copied and emulated time and time again by lesser bands looking to cash in on its popularity. Hopefully she finds this as flattering as it is presumably frustrating.
In 2006 it looked like The Distillers may have been done for good. Two members had left to join other projects during the previous summer, whilst Dalle had married Josh Holme of Queens of The Stone Age and had a baby with him. They officially announced that the band was no more at the end of this year.
Thankfully, in 2018 the band announced a comeback and a world tour, seemingly out of nowhere. This was quickly followed up by the announcing of a new album in April 2019. With many of us too young or too unaware to catch The Distillers on their first run, these announcements were like Christmas coming early.
