10 Punk Bands You Need To See Before You're Boring
5. Green Day
Now, this may be a controversial pick for this list. Green Day have gained a reputation as a far more commercial punk act than some of the other entries here. That being said, their roots are undeniably within the behemoth of the California punk scene, and they have made massive strides for the genre with their success.
Green Day’s concept album, American Idiot, was a punk-rock opera like the world had never seen before; singlehandedly bringing the genre to the forefront of mainstream music in the early to mid-2000s. The album even led to a Broadway musical with the same title that still tours to this day.
For those of you unimpressed with American Idiot’s re-imagining of the band, Green Day’s earlier work is still timeless punk euphoria which has in no way been forgotten by the band. Even now, if you catch a live show, you’ll here plenty pre-American Idiot, energetic anthems performed to perfection.
Green Day continue to sell out arenas worldwide and, with concerts that typically end north of the three hour mark, you’re guaranteed to get your money’s worth. Have a mosh to Longview, have a cry to 21 Guns and stop getting so worried about the fact that they’re successful.
