10 Rock Bands That Defined The 2000's

1. Radiohead

Radiohead were poised to be the next legendary rock band. Though they had a shaky start with Pablo Honey in the early 90's, the band stretched their alternative muscles over essential albums like The Bends and their 1997 masterstroke Ok Computer. The grounds had been set. The next generation now had found their version of U2. But that was the last thing on Thom Yorke's mind.

What fans were given as a followup instead was Kid A, a swirling half-psychotic mix of electronic music and glitchy instrumentals. And the fans went WILD. It spoke to the band's songwriting expertise that they could completely change their style and the results were still unbelievable.

As the band went onward, they experimented with styles like jazz and trip-hop. This led to them almost topping themselves yet again with the 2007 release In Rainbows, with its vast range of dynamics and elegant production.

For Radiohead, rock no longer seemed to be a genre, but an ever changing series of art projects. At this point, Radiohead were free to pull at their sound like taffy just to see what other detours they could take their sound in. With their unique mentality to song construction, Radiohead truly embodied the 2000's mindset that anything was (and is) possible.
