10 Rock Bands That Never Made A Bad Album
6. The White Stripes
The White Stripes were one of the reasons why rock managed to survive into the 2000's. With so many rock bands aping the sounds of nu metal and industrial music, the real heart of rock and roll seemed to be dead in the water at the turn of the millennium. After the Stripes emerged from Detroit, the entire musical landscape felt new and exciting again.
Granted, what the Stripes were doing was nothing new, with the songs being typical garage rock songs in the vein of the golden age of rock and roll. However, what the band managed to do with rock's bare essentials gave us some of the best anthems of the modern age from the eternal sports chant "Seven Nation Army" to the pure shot of energy on "Fell in Love With a Girl."
Even though many rock purists would stick to albums like White Blood Cells or Elephant, the band's more experimental efforts on stuff like Icky Thump and Get Behind Me Satan are great reinventions of the typical blues structure.
After the Stripes, Jack White's solo work has still been up to par, but almost nothing can compare to this kind of musical inhibition. Whether it's the rough around the edges style of their early work or the off-the-wall craziness that came at the end of their career, the power that the White Stripes possessed had the potential to shake the entire world.
