10 Rock Bands Who Blatantly Copied Other Artists

1. The Bitter End - Sum 41

The early '00s were not really a high point for Metallica. After being one of the premier rock acts for the better part of 2 decades in the world of hard rock, the St. Anger era was just about to get underway, bringing any goodwill towards these thrash titans to a glaring halt. If you wanted to get a taste of that thrashy goodness again though, we actually found the next best thing in the world of pop punk.

Being die hard metalheads, Sum 41 had started to experiment with some heavier styles on Chuck, culminating in a direct homage to Metallica on The Bitter End. Compared to other songs that try to mask their influences, these Canadian punks aren't above wearing Metallica on their sleeves as they play, leaving in references to old Metallica songs and taking the rhythmic structure of the chorus from Metallica's own Battery.

Considering Metallica were looking almost down for the count around this time, this was the kind of thrash heaviness that many fans were aching to hear from St. Anger, only to be disappointed when it was finally released. Even though we're a far ways off from classic territory on something like this, Sum 41 at least gave us a healthy reminder of the glory days of speed metal on here.
