Any band that's worth its salt is going to want to take risks every now and again. Rock has never been known as a particularly safe genre for its artists, so it's always nice to mix things up and see what your fans think of it than to just write the same song over and over again.

Whereas bands might take a risk that's outside of their comfort zone from time to time, System of a Down's entire career has seemed to be based on risk.

From one record to the next, System has always felt like a ticking time bomb whenever they were on record, going from crazy blast beats in the middle of Chop Suey to eventually slowing things down to a soothing harmonious finale. Outside of the actual music, the band has always kept true to themselves, each sprinkling bits of their Armenian heritage into their music. Despite a few dustups here and there with conflicting political ideologies, System is a group that understands that the importance of the music trumps anything else that are capable of.
