10 Songs That Actually Got Better Live

2. Hey Jude - Beatles

The Beatles are one of the few bands that you could say single-handedly shaped rock and roll. At this point, the subtle nuances of the band's work is as much engrained in the rock zeitgeist as the electric guitar or the guitar riff itself. Though the band have had their share of great rock tunes, it's actually Paul McCartney's ballad "Hey Jude" that has graduated to legendary status.

For the longest time, McCartney would consciously not put any of his Beatles songs in his live catalog for fear of overshadowing some of his solo work. However, as his career has gone on, McCartney has enough hits under his belt to split each performance into a 50/50 split of Beatles material. Though he has been known to close with songs like "Live and Let Die" or even the ending of the Abbey Road medley, "Hey Jude" is always a knockout...but not for anything McCartney does.

As the song devolves into the lovely chant of "Na Na Nas," McCartney will often stop playing his instruments because the sheer volume of the crowd is so deafening. Paul McCartney may have conceived this song and laid down the studio track for it, but as time has gone on, "Hey Jude" went from McCartney's song to the world's property.
