10 Songs That Are Impossible To Understand
5. Supersonic - Oasis
After the sudden and tragic fall of grunge in the mid '90s, rock had suddenly gotten a lot more morose than people probably bargained for. It was about time to stop getting all dark and depressing and steer the community towards something a bit more optimistic to listen to. While we did find that in Oasis' Beatles pastiches on Definitely Maybe, that didn't come with the most mind-expanding of lyrics if Supersonic is any indication.
Throughout most of this song, Noel Gallagher's guitar and Liam Gallagher's delivery are the main draw, having the same monumental size of hard rock while still being rooted in the classic rock and roll made famous in the '60s. Granted, the fact that Noel wrote this in just a couple of minutes really shows, as most of the appeal of the track seems to begin and end at the opening line of feeling supersonic.
Aside from the tried and true references to the rock and roll lifestyle like drinking gin and tonic and referencing the Beatles' classic Yellow Submarine, there's nothing really to latch onto in terms of the raw emotional aspect of writing. Then again, that might have ended up hurting the song in the long run. You might not be able to pick up on what being supersonic means, but when you hear it in context, it feels like it has the power to shake the earth to its core.
