10 Songs That Are Impossible To Understand

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have practically made their entire career on not being able to understand the crux of what they are saying. While Anthony Kiedis does manage to bring up some clever bars and even the odd tearjerker on albums like Californication, most of the time the cerebral aspect of the music takes a back seat to the primo funk being laid down by Flea and John Frusciante. Lyrics are not a priority...but you have to try a little harder than something like Give It Away.

As much as this is the trademark Peppers song, there's a lot more going on in the lyrics than most people would care to focus on. Always indebted to the more hip hop centric delivery, Kiedis' bars are a lot more scatterbrained even by his standards, as he talks about everything from a Bob Marley reference to not even explaining what he in fact has.

Though there's no specification, it's clear that whatever it is is really important, seeing how Kiedis makes a point of giving it to our mama, papa, and daughter in rapid succession. Then again, if you were going to make your millions screaming a bunch of disconnected subjects into a microphone, the early '90s were as good a time as any to get down on this kind of funky jam.
