10 Songs That Were Painful To Make
3. Made in Heaven - Queen
If any Queen fan had known what Freddie Mercury was going through towards the tail end of the band's run, they would be astonished as to how many records he was able to make.
After being diagnosed with AIDS towards the end of the '80s, Mercury kept himself working up until the end, trying to squeeze as much music out of himself as possible before his disease got the better of him. Though Innuendo was meant to be Queen's final outing, Mercury's plans for more material set Made in Heaven in motion.
Granted, it was clear that Freddie was not going to be around to see this album come to fruition, with most of the sessions being scheduled around his own state of mind. It was as simple as this: if Freddie was having one of his better days, he would make his way to the studio and work with the band and pump out some new music.
Calling for the band to finish the tracks after he died, you can hear Freddie putting his all into every piece of musical life he has left, from the beauty of something like Winter's Tale to the slow build taking place at the very end of Mother Love.
Though Freddie probably had several other things he could have been doing at this point, to think he was looking out for his fans first and foremost speaks to the type of performer we were dealing with.
