10 Terrible Rock Songs By Legendary Rock Bands
1. Revolution 9 - The Beatles
As rock and roll was first starting to become more than just a trend, the Beatles were at the forefront of every major movement in their path. After their split in the early '70s, their run of albums from Rubber Soul onwards still holds up as some of the most celebrated rock and roll of all time. Especially on their self titled White Album, they stuffed two slabs of vinyl to the gills with classic tracks, and also included Revolution 9.
Remember, this was also around the same time that John Lennon began his relationship with artist Yoko Ono, where he started to get into the more avant garde side of sound design. While that strange approach to recording worked on songs like Tomorrow Never Knows, this reinterpretation of the classic B-side of Hey Jude is where his taste for the strange sounds of rock went a bit too far, featuring nothing but chaotic noise, random voices, and an intro with someone just saying 'number 9' over and over again.
Despite some pushback, Lennon remained very proud of his creation, going so far as to fight with Paul McCartney to make sure that it was included on the album. While this definitely succeeds in painting a picture of what revolution sounds like, this might be the reason why the skip button was invented on stereos.
