10 Terrible Rock Songs That Killed Classic Albums

1. My World - Guns N Roses

There’s a good chance we’d be here all day if we tried to analyze everything that went into Guns N Roses’ Use Your Illusion records. Despite being one of the most hyped records in the world of hard rock, Axl Rose definitely put a lot of his stamp on these songs as well, which could be both badass, uncomfortable, or both at the same time depending which disc and section of the song you’re in. If you thought that the world of Axl Rose was complicated, just wait until he tells you what it’s like in song.

Although the Illusion records were already long winded to begin with, the second volume closes with My World, which was supposed to be Axl trying his hand at writing a sort of industrial sounding song, being inspired by acts like Nine Inch Nails and Ministry at the time. Allegedly recorded while he was high on magic mushrooms, this is one of the worst things to turn up on a Guns N Roses project, being just 2 minutes of Axl talking about how awesome he is and trying to confront the listener after seemingly every other line.

While it might have been meant as a sort of threatening song to leave us on our toes for the next project, the whole thing feels much more juvenile these days, with Axl sounding more like a school bully who wants to shove you into a locker the minute this song is over. The disastrous tour for both of these albums may have been what killed the original version of the band, but you could probably point to this song as the moment where everything started to go downhill.
