10 Terrible Songs That ALMOST RUINED Great Albums

1. Revolution 9 - The Beatles

It's hard not to see the Beatles White Album as a bit of a mess even at the best of times. For as many classic songs are accounted for on this album, the fractured recording process along with the testy relationships between the Fab Four have had many people comparing this to a bunch of solo tracks under the Beatles mantle. Even so, Revolution 9 tends to stretch the limits as to what constitutes a Beatles song.

Despite carrying the torch for experimentation in pop music, this is one of the most unusual songs in the Fabs catalog, being almost entirely a sound collage made by John Lennon. Taking the title from the breakthrough single released just before the record, this was meant to depict what the aural equivalent of revolution was to Lennon, with Yoko Ono being brought in to depict different outlandish sound designs for the record.

Compared to the usual downtempo material like Blackbird and While My Guitar Gently Weeps, this song put a clear division in the group, with Paul McCartney hating the end result and George Harrison going so far as to help Lennon see it through. Instead of coming off as the spark for revolution, Revolution 9 does a much better job at depicting just how much tension was weighing on rock's greatest band in their final days.
