10 Times Musicians Owned Interviewers
1. Akala - Teaching Piers Morgan A Lesson
Over the last decade, British rapper Akala has become as known for his activism, writing, and debating skills as he has for his contributions to the world of music.
He is prolific in his approach to challenging assumptions and misconceptions about race in the UK, specifically when it comes to the vilification of black youths by the British press, education, and judicial systems. He's been awarded honorary degrees from Brighton and Oxford Brooke University, and published an acclaimed book Natives; an examination of class and race in Britain.
So In 2019, when Akala appeared on Good Morning Britain, to discuss the issue of knife crime in relationship to race, it was delightfully satisfying to see him educate the former GMB presenter Piers Morgan.
It was an incredible display of intellect from the Kentish Town musician, giving detailed but succinct answers, and counter-arguments to Piers Morgan's usual displays of contrarian, interview baiting.
Although, this was one of Morgan's more restrained and sensitive attempts at discussing a concept that's a little bit over his head, he nevertheless failed to grasp fully what Akala eloquently laid out in his answers. But even Morgan seemed impressed with Akala's ability to form such convincing statements.
