10 Underrated Albums By Huge Bands
4. Get Behind Me Satan – The White Stripes (2005)
The fifth studio album from the White Stripes, was indeed praised by critics, and even received a Grammy in 2006. Where it perhaps falls short in adulation, however, is with White Stripes fans themselves. This is a forgivable offence, given that the duo's back catalogue is so jammed full of classics. But this album often ranks in the lower tiers when it comes to White Stripes best-of lists.
Get Behind Me Satan, was a move away from their guitar led sound. Admittedly, Blue Orchid opened the album up, with a furious knee slapper - Meg was crashing cymbals like it was no ones business, and Jack's unwavering guitar riff was reminiscent of previous garage rock classics.
The album soon changed tack, however. Jack swapped out the heavy guitar riffs, in place of country and blues inspired piano and organ melodies. But this is why the album deserves more praise. It was the same approach, but utilised different tools. My Doorbell and Forever For Her, are numbers indicative of the altered sound. Things were certainly more reserved, but no less enjoyable.
