And now this is the one that we've all been waiting for for a long time. Considering the amount of hype that we got around Book of Souls from a while back, there were some fans getting legitimately worried that the titans of metal music were about to hang up their hat after decades of great metal music. This is Maiden we're talking about here, and they're going to stop once the sun burns out of the sky.
Compared to the grandiose material that we already have from them since Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Senjutsu has the potential to be even greater than its predecessor. Running at approximately 80 minutes over just 10 tracks, this sounds like it's going to be an album full of epic songs, as Maiden dive deeper into material that even they weren't sure that they were capable of.
If any project like this can work, it's in Maiden's hands. Since the '80s, Steve Harris has always carried on with amazing music for this band, along with Bruce Dickinson never showing any rust on his trademark pipes. While not nearly as long a wait, this feels like it has a lot in common with something like Fear Inoculum from Tool from a few years ago. The songs may be a lot to take in all at once, but once you take the deep dive, there's no turning back.
