10 Worst Sellout Rock Albums Of All Time

1. Victim of Love - Elton John

Elton John is one of the few musicians who has made a career out of writing perfect songs. From Tiny Dancer to Your Song to Bennie and the Jets, John's string of hits in the '70s and beyond have proved timeless for countless rock fans of all generations. Elton certainly couldn't keep the fire burning forever, but no-one expected him to go down in flames quite like this.

Recorded in a barrage of cocaine binges and writer's block, Victim of Love shows Elton trying to hop on the disco train, with often disastrous results. The first problem is the outside songwriters, with virtually none of the tracks being written by Elton himself. Bringing in as much disco credibility as he could, the result ends up sounding like Elton's trademark songwriting being fed through a dance music filter, which makes songs that could have been something lose their luster after a few minutes.

It also doesn't help that Elton decided to turn in one of the most lackluster covers of Johnny B Goode ever conceived, which sounds like Chuck Berry if he cut his teeth in Studio 54. The '70s were a time for Elton John to conquer the music world, but as we reached the end of the decade, one of the greatest songwriters of all time was being subjected to bottom of the barrel pop.
