Next is a band far less hairy, but nonetheless deserving of your time. Alt-J are a four-piece indie band from Leeds who released their debut album "An Awesome Wave" all the way back in 2012 to much critical acclaim and admiration from those fortunate enough to discover them. The album was an intriguing release; bass heavy, stripped down in every other musical aspect and with vocals that the lead singer describes as "singing through a sponge cake". The band have gone on to achieve some degree of celebrity for their effort in the years that have passed, with songs appearing in films such as "Silver Linings Playbook", countless advertisements and high profile television shows such as Sons of Anarchy and CSI. Despite all of this it seemed uncertain the fate of Alt-J until only last month, with news of the band's bassist parting ways seeming the kiss of death to the band for many fans. Thankfully though this hasn't been the case with Alt-J resurrected from their slumber , and with plans of releasing a new album at some point this year. A statement from the band was issued to NME, saying that this next release will have a more complex sound, that they had been restricting themselves to what they could do live on the previous record. And if that was indeed the case, then this new release looks even more promising, with all of the charm of "An Awesome Wave" hopefully repeated but given a new life. Hopefully, this may also mean a new tour or at least a few appearances come festival season for the band, whose live shows have become a talking point between fans due to their atmospheric and intense performances, earning them the status of one of the most interesting live acts of recent years.
