20 Greatest Punk Albums Ever Made
12. L7 - Bricks Are Heavy
Although this record flirts with sub-genres such as grunge and alternative metal, it still has a heart and soul of punk rock. 'Bricks Are Heavy' was released in 1992 and was a step in a new direction for L7.
The all-female punk group took the genre by storm in 1992 with their post-punk, grunge and classic punk hybrid sound. Guided by the iconic lead single, 'Pretend We're Dead', this album made L7 one of the peak all-female groups of the early 90's. Previous albums from the band had been smoother and made for more leisurely listening, but 'Bricks Are Heavy' presented a much dirtier and grittier sound compared to what fans were used to.
Seen as a gamble by some at the time, it paid off for the band and is still regarded as their best and career defining record. L7 committed to a lengthy hiatus in 2001 which run through until 2014. In 2019, they released their first record in 20 years when they unleashed 'Scatter the Rats' to a great critical reception.
