He may look like the poster boy for the casual rock style, but Slash's infamous excess in Guns n' Roses defied a technical brilliance that has flourished since Axl Rose took the rest of that band towards the basement.

While the world of rock went to the gutter, Slash's style was elegance and sonic good taste personified and his lyricism and commitment to rich, loud melodies made him not only an essential guitar icon, but a hugely talented one.
