When Dylan released Tempest back in 2012, few indications were given that that was going to be the last album of original compositions released by the legendary rocker. Though given that the title of the album was eerily similar to Shakespeare's final play The Tempest, some fans feared that Dylan may have been calling time on his remarkable career as a songwriter.

Though his last three studio albums, Shadows in the Night, Fallen Angels, and Triplicate covering the works of some of Dylan's favourite American musicians have still been well received both critically and by his adoring fanbase, the release of a new original composition has wet fans appetite, and the desire to hear the iconic wit and unmatched storytelling of Dylan on a new album is the highest it has been in several years.

The track also marks the 8th decade that Bob has released original music in, an incredible feat only matched by musicians of similar legendary status.

Despite his hiatus from recording original music, Murder Most Foul seems to indicate that Dylan has still been writing his own songs during this time period, leaving open the possibility that a highly-anticipated album could be released this year.

With Dylan's voice also sounding as strong as ever, fans the world over have fingers crossed that this may be the first indication of the return of the music icon.
