7 Heavy Metal Songs About Space Travel
2. Galactic Cowboys - Ranch On Mars
An unlisted track from their sophomore album titled Space in Your Face, Ranch on Mars has one of the Galactic Cowboys’ catchiest choruses while otherwise being among its less verbose songs.
Though the chorus suggests “someday we’ll live among the stars, maybe own a ranch on mars” in a future sense, the rest of the song seems to indicate that they are presently in space (“though we’ve traveled far away, another galaxy to play”) and are looking to find a place to settle (“come in mission control, give us guidance for our souls”).
All of this is under the guise of a song about unity between two or more people as the whole first verse speaks of “peculiar people just the same, we are brothers in our hearts” whose “future lies beyond the Earth.” Considering that this profession of kinship starts the song, the mention of space that follows turns the song on its head, in a sense, taking it into Oh, The Places You’ll Go territory, making it seem whimsical in nature.
