7 Single Songs That Almost Make Their Albums Worth The Cost

2. Bruce Dickinson - Silver Wings

Album: The Best of Bruce Dickinson

When Bruce Dickinson rejoined Iron Maiden in 1999 after six years gone from the band, his respectable solo career entered a void of uncertainty. Having been fairly consistent with releasing material up to that point, it was unknown as to whether we would see another album from him in the future as the reunion revitalized the band and set them on a course of success that has not faltered since.

Capitalizing on that momentum during a period of rest between tours, The Best of Bruce Dickinson was released in September 2001. The two-disc version of this album is a must-have for the die-hards, as the second disc contains thirteen lost, live and/or minimally available songs and one spoken track.

However, for those looking at the single disc edition, the two new tracks (Broken and Silver Wings) are the garnish, with the latter being the superior of the two. The song ranks among Dickinson’s best solo material, following the Accident of Birth formula of heavy, pumping guitar work laden with harmonies in both rhythm and lead parts and Bruce’s voice soaring higher than the planes about which he sings.
