Every Wings Album Ranked From Worst To Best
1. Band On The Run
The bands masterpiece. Fans of RAM know Paul McCartney had already put out a genius post-Beatles record but with Band On The Run he proved he was still capable of a commercial and critical hit.
The album is packed with strong melodies and sounds much more confident than Wings' previous albums. You wouldn’t guess that two band members quit the day before the group flew to Lagos to record. Or that the original demos were lost after the McCartneys were mugged in the street.
The album bounces between styles and moods, the title track’s mini song suite setting the tone. We move from there to the sparkly glam romp Jet, the lilting pop of Bluebird, through ear worm singalong Mrs Vandebilt and on to the gnarley riff of Let Me Roll It and so on.
The album finishes on the insanely catchy Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five complete with lyrical and musical callbacks to preceding tracks.
Wings would record some great music both before and after this record but Band On The Run is the undeniable sound of a pop master firing on all cylinders.
