Guns N' Roses: 13 Notorious Incidents You Won't Believe

9. Philadelphia '02 Riot

A second riot in 2002 sealed that fate of the tour. With two shows booked in Philadelphia in December of that year (the first had sold out), it was to be a huge stop on GN'R's comeback trail. This riot actually happened in the venue, making it a very dangerous situation. The opening acts had gone on. Guns N' Roses were expected to take the stage. It was then announced that there was an illness in the band, and that the night was over. Show's over, go home folks. Fans, many heavily inebriated by that point, began throwing chairs, bottles, and whatever else they could get their hands on. Again, it was a miracle no one was seriously injured. Days later, unwilling to risk further incident, the promoter, Clear Channel, pulled the plug on the entire tour. The band returned to Philadelphia a decade later, where Rose apologised for the incident, saying that he had cancelled the show that morning due to illness, but word never made it to the promoter, who in turn allowed the doors to open.
