Kurt Cobain - Remembering Nirvana's 5 Best Ever Songs

3. Smells Like Teen Spirit

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTWKbfoikeg Nevermind would become the band's breakout commercial success launching Kurt Cobain and co into immortality. Memorably kicking Michael Jackson's "Bad" off the top of the charts, the album contained several fantastic singles, the first (and arguably best) being "Smells Like Teen Spirit", perhaps one of Nirvana's better known songs. Considering it was the band's biggest hit, it was difficult not to mention it on a "best of" list, despite Kurt's own confession at the time that he hated the song. Yet it was this that launched him to mainstream success and led to him being referred to as the "spokesman of a generation" and Nirvana "the flagship band of Generation X". Filmed in a school gymnasium, featuring an overzealous janitor, a candid reference to one of Kurt's first ever jobs, Smells Like Teen Spirit continues to be played at any decent rock night at clubs across the world. It's angry, it's angsty, it's frustrated, it's an unleashing of pure electric brilliance. It's one of the best rock songs ever.
