Muse: 10 Essential Tracks ALL Fans Should Listen To

7. Hysteria

Absolution was Muse's third LP, an album that itself holds a ton of fantastic tracks among its run time and to this day is considered one of the pinnacle albums of the entire catalogue.

One of the best tracks from that album is Hysteria, which plays on the theme of obsession and loving something you just can't have. The main narrative thread of the song details a man in desperation that, by the end, sees him clinging to the ambition of being better, but knowing how difficult a path that is to follow.

It's a reflection of the song's title, losing yourself to a uncontrollable level of emotion, and it's powerful stuff when you break it down into just words.

A fantastic track, this is one of those beats you just can't get out of your head thanks to a highly memorable bass line. Indeed, it's arguably one of the best by Wolstenholme across his many years as bass guitarist, something that was used to great effect in the early days but not quite as much in the more recent albums. Still, it's as memorable now as it was back in 2003.

Born in Ireland and raised in Australia, Mark still wishes his Tetris and Mario Kart skills could translate to the real world more than just writing about games for nearly 20 years. Still, can't complain.
