Trivium - What The Dead Men Say Review: Every Song Ranked Worst To Best
1. Catastrophist
The longest song on the album, coming in at 6:28 minutes, Catastrophist starts with the distant building thudding of the band before erupting to the kind of soaring chorus that only Trivium could pull off.
This was the very first single from the album to be released by the band and it’s easy to hear why once you hear it: it’s stupid good. The song is all about using your power in the world to avert catastrophe and strive to treat the planet well, and the rallying lyrics here make it all the more inspiring.
However once this song hits the midpoint, the imminent savagery of Matt Heafy’s vocals gives way to an insane guitar solo which starts off the best drum pattern on the record from Alex Bent.
Catastrophist is every single member of Trivium doing what they absolutely do best and the running time allows for every aspect to properly thrive. This song is as impressive as it is fun and as heavy as it is catchy, and while it’s not necessarily going to convert pop lovers to metalheads it’s the kind of song you’d put forward as the very best of the genre.
