10 American Restaurant Chains That Need To Come To The UK

5. Wendy's

Wendy's was previously in the UK during the 1990s, but withdrew overnight with the exception of a restaurant at Heathrow Airport that lasted for a few more years. The quality of the burgers was better than you find in McDonalds or Burger King at the time, but they had a number of loss leading restaurants and simply couldn't compete at their price point. But the burger market in the UK has subsequently changed. During the 1990s it was literally a two chain affair (with Wimpy holding on in some areas) €“ but now in London at least you have a horde of burger chains at a variety of price points as well as independently owned but highly rated restaurants. Wendy's would now come in at a similar price to Burger King but offer a fresher €“ and non-microwaved product. Despite the recent improvements to BK's buns, they still hold a fragile place in the market until they start actually flame grilling burgers once again €“ or at least make some attempt to hide the fact that all the burgers are microwaved. This means that right now there is an opportunity for another burger chain to come in and undercut the BK price point with a superior burger. The smart move would be not to even attempt to compete with McDonalds, but sit a Wendy's as close to a BK as possible in every location. We guarantee that an aggressive marketing strategy would result in a new second most popular burger chain in the UK.
