10 Creepy Animated Horror Shorts To Watch This Halloween

9. Don't Hug Me I'm Scared 4

It's hard not to have heard of this particular short series when it came out, since it took over the internet in grand fashion when it first dropped, starting its first video off with a fairly innocuous children's educational show with puppets and mascots. It obviously didn't stay that way though, quickly devolving into black comedy with existential horror, gore, and other descents into madness not even remotely appropriate for anyone - let alone kids.

Though the original itself isn't animated, and largely done with puppets and practical effects, it has some elements of animation worth noting. It later delves more into animation in one of its episodes, however, mixing 3D animation with its signature puppetry - as disturbing, if not as surprising, as the first.

The series as a whole is disturbing, unsettling and created for shock value yet admirably well-made and highly entertaining in both absurdist humour as well as dark, almost horror comedy. After the first, it's an exercise of waiting for the pre-school style of the show to devolve into whatever madness it's meant to fall into. The ensuing notoriety it has gained is no surprise, then.
