10 Heart-Warming And Uplifting Things That Happened In 2020
3. Edge Returned From Retirement At The Royal Rumble
The world has been waiting for over nine long months to return to better times, so that everyone can do what they love again. For Adam Copeland, aka Edge, it took him nine long years to once more be able to do what he loved so dearly.
The 'Rated-R Superstar' had to relinquish the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in April 2011 due to previous and on-going neck injuries. He did stick around momentarily to host The Cutting Edge and support his friend and tag team partner, Christian in his pursuit for the aforementioned title. In 2012, Edge was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and regularly featured in TV shows Vikings, Private Eyes and Haven since his hanging up his boots.
However, after undergoing a triple fusion next surgery and "wiping out" on a competitive mountain bike ride, Edge reportedly said he felt "really good" and began asking himself "what if?"
The WWE Hall of Famer sought the opinion of some of the best doctors in the country and was eventually cleared by WWE medical staff. He then got into the best physical shape of his life, thanks to the help of the tag team FTR and his wife and fellow Hall of Famer, Beth Phoenix.
Speculation of his return arose when he speared Elias at SummerSlam in 2019 in the Canadian's hometown of Toronto. Then, a few months later, he emerged as entrant #21 in WWE's annual Royal Rumble match, officially making his return to in-ring competition.
Fortunately, Minute Maid Park - the venue of the 2020 Royal Rumble PPV - is an open-air venue, because the roof would have undoubtedly been blown off, what with the 'pop' that ensued. You can see how much the occasion meant to him, visibly in awe as Adam Copeland, before transitioning into the beloved character; curling over, raising the devil's horns and spearing everyone in sight.
Welcome back, Adam.
