9. Will The Last Person To Leave Britain Please Turn Out The Lights The Sun
The only humorous entry to a list which is largely comprised of historic events, The Sun loves a non-serious headline or two, thats for sure. On Election Day 1992 April 9 Conservative Prime Minister John Major was being challenged for the governance of Britain by Labour leader Neil Kinnock. The Sun, supporting the Tories, were horrified at the prospect of Kinnock who they deemed to be a bit of a buffoon taking the British premiership and so designed their General Election Day front page in the hope that Labour would fail to gain power. Accompanied alongside a picture of Neil Kinnock inside a bulb, the papers headline read: If Kinnock wins today will the last person to leave Britain please turn out the light. Truly unique, and quite ingenious. Labour lost the 1992 Election and Kinnock never did become PM much to the delight of The Sun.
