10 Sci-Fi Tech That's So Close We Can Barely Contain Ourselves
3. Food Printer
Imagine ordering a takeaway, but instead of a bloke arriving at your door on a scooter, you can simply print it out. Well, rejoice, because there are now a handful companies out there that have created such a device. Based on the same principles as normal 3D printers (because we now live in an age in which 3D printers are considered normal), but instead of printing in plastic, they print in pastry, dough, sauce, vegetables, sugar and anything else that takes your fancy.
Practically speaking, 3D printed food could be the future of nutrition as it is an excellent way of customising the nutritional value of our food down to the last vitamin. 3D printed vegetables are also being trialled in some retirement homes in Germany as a way of making mashed up, easy-to-chew food more appetising for its residents.
Another cool advantage of this futuristic foodie revolution is that the printers can create beautifully intricate designs - a good example being those crazy futuristic geometric sweets that look like the product of a collaboration between Willy Wonka and Escher. Real talk - it's probably not going to print a Sunday roast for you, but if a quiche in the shape of an octopus floats your boats then, boy, are you in for a treat.
