10 Terrifying Prehistoric Creatures We Should See In A Movie
6. Neanderthals
The concept and perception of early Neanderthals in the medium of TV and film have often been depicted to read as funny. The subspecies of archaic humanity is commonly known for being a less evolved version of homo sapiens, and this tends to lead to people finding them as non-threatening. But there is plenty of potential to generate a horrifying experience dealing with these less evolved creatures.
It is believed that the cause of extinction for this ancient pre-human either related to disease, climate change or competition from European early modern humans. Although they never reached heights of society or advanced civilization, they had decent technology, mostly centred around an ability to generate fire and weave materials. There is even plenty of evidence revealing the extent of community and communication that these ape-like men were capable of.
Ultimately, although they have often been depicted as wild and silly creatures, the Neanderthal could make for a compellingly dark threat to humanity. Imagine a human being who is physically well-built and robust, but doesn't have a concept of empathy, just a desire to hunt.
Meeting a Neanderthal probably wouldn't have ended well for you, and that is why they could be such a strong threat in cinema.
