10 Things We Learned From Bret Weinstein On The Joe Rogan Experience
7. What Are The Dangers Of #ShutDownSTEM?
One part of the Black Lives Matter movement Weinstein openly isn't a fan of is the fact that he feels it's about 'disassembling the very things which make the west marvellous'. Going further, Weinstein also thinks the movement is anti-science and it doesn't want policy based on the established science. Which is quite the claim.
It was in this moment Weinstein mentioned how top scientific institutions (like Caltech) had recently agreed to broadcast the hashtag #ShutdownSTEM due to people feeling as though their is racial inequality in science, something Rogan was completely unaware of. Rogan then confessed he doesn't really pay attention to a lot of social media these days for the good of his own personal sanity. He's not the only one.
In essence Weinstein feels that shutting down the established science simply wouldn't make sense as he sees it as the most powerful tool to equip minorities with in their fight against equality. He also thinks this style of thought are an attack on the academic culture.
Weinstein and Rogan both seemed visually shook up by the prospect of shutting down both STEM and Academia, it must be said.
