Though he is, of course, best known for his skill riding concrete waves, Hawk spoke on the podcast about how he has always loved surfing as his brother was a surfer, who introduced the younger sibling to both sports and ultimately gave young Tony his first skateboard which now sits in the Smithsonian.

With all the death-defying stunts Hawk has performed, you'd assume he would be impervious to fear at that point, but Tony was quick to point out to Joe that he had rarely feared for his life quite as much as he did during a surfing trip to Maui with his brother and Laird Hamilton.

Hawk explains that while tow-in surfing with Hamilton he was clattered by a wave and endured a terrifying ordeal attempting to get back to the surface while being held underwater.
