Without doubt the one thing which is guaranteed to be agreed upon by a good 90% of the 21+ year old population is that we don't like young people. The very second that we stop being young people, they terrify us, and there's a good few reasons as to why we should feel this way. First, the state of society in Britain at the minute means that seemingly every city street corner is inhabited by a collection of tracksuit wearing morons chugging away at cheap cider. Second, is that, psychologically speaking, we're all probably horrified that because we're no longer the young people, the new generation is here to shoo us off into retirement already. There is literally not a single thing the young population can do to alter this perception, as every time we get report of an inspiring youngster, they are treated as an exception, rather than the rule. Furthermore, because we all go through our teenage years believing that we know better than anyone else who has or will ever exist, those of us who have come out the otherside recognise that because we were insufferable idiots, the same will definitely be the case for the generation following us. Even more than that, I give to you the most irritating example of getting older and living around young people. Having spent years living in a fairly student-friendly area, the moment I reached the age of 25 (not exactly ancient) I began to resent those who were only occupied for one hour a day, being lectured on the importance of Classics, then going home to an extremely loud party involving lots of cheering and terrible music. All the while there was I, tucking myself into bed at a disappointingly sensible time, preparing myself to haul myself back up at 6a.m. the following morning. If nothing else, we hate the young, because we can't have quite as much fun as they do. What do you hate which, when you think about it, is pretty innocent? Let us know in the comments section below.
