Technology entrepreneur Elon Musk was a surprise guest on the Joe Rogan Podcast in 2018. Having an incredibly busy schedule with his various projects, including Tesla cars, SpaceX and a project for making underground tunnels in Los Angeles to help reduce traffic congestion, Elon made time to spend over two hours with Joe Rogan to discuss several topics.
On the episode, Rogan and Elon discussed Musk’s productivity, the probability of life being a simulation, and Musk’s now fatalistic view on the future of Artificial Intelligence being used against other humans.
While Elon Musk is not necessarily controversial himself, an act he committed during the episode, and its immediate backlash certainly was. At the 2:10:00 mark, Rogan sparks up a blunt, to which Musk dubs it a ‘posh pot tobacco pot.’ After clarifying whether it was legal, Elon takes one hit making it one of the most memorable moments in the podcast’s history.
The immediate backlash, with many investors viewing Musk as showing signs of losing his mind, caused Tesla’s stock to decrease by 30%.
