13 Most Bizarre Things Found Inside People’s Bodies
2. Skull Plug
Barts Pathology Museum in London, there is a special cabinet that contains some of the weirdest things that doctors throughout history have removed from people's bodies. One of the most gruesome is a homemade skull plug from 1846, still in situ in the aforementioned skull.
The plug supposedly belonged to an elderly woman with a cleft palette. It is made from cork and tape and the woman used to use it to plug up the great hole in the roof of her mouth.
Far from fixing the problem, however, the plug just caused the hole to widen, forcing her to enlarge the plug with more tape which, in turn, caused the hole to widen even more. This vicious cycle continued until the roof of her mouth was entirely taken up by the plug and all of her teeth had fallen out.
Yeesh, thank Christ for modern medicine.
