When it comes to the agility of our four-legged companions, it's often dogs who get the majority of the spotlight due to their ability to catch frisbees, tennis balls, and more from seemingly any distance.

However, if you've ever seen a domestic cat charge around the living room while you stand in disbelief at the prospect of your vase being knocked off the coffee table, you'll be fully aware that they can run as fast as the wind. All it takes is one blink of an eye, and your beloved cat becomes nowhere to be seen. Unless you're smart enough to be able to calculate speed just off the top of your head, then you may be unaware of just how fast these cats can run.

The average domestic cat is capable of reaching speeds up to 30 miles an hour, with Egyptian Maus most typically able to hit these speeds. That's an impressive feat in itself, but let's add some context to that fact to make it far more remarkable. Should a cat successfully reach 30mph, then they would be able to defeat Usain Bolt in a 200 metre sprint.

Next time you watch Bolt running like there's no tomorrow, just keep in mind that your cat could easily get to the same speed.
