Colonel Harland Sanders died on December 16, 1980, and the state of Kentucky respectfully honoured the passing of one of their favourites sons. Governor John Brown Jr ensured that every single flag on every Kentucky state building was lowered at half-mast for four days in order to honour Sanders' memory.
