While visiting Britain in 1931, Gandhi made a radio broadcast that reached the United States - the first time his voice could be heard in America. Being unfamiliar with the technology though, Gandhi's first words heard by the American public were: "(While pointing at the microphone) Do I have to speak into this thing?"
