20 London Attractions You Need To Visit Before You Die
6. Highgate Cemetery
Okay, a cemetery might not be most people's idea of a fun day out (unless you're really into The Cure and Tim Burton movies). Highgate Cemetery is an absolutely fascinating place though, most notable for being the burial site of Karl Marx. The West Cemetery is now only accessible by guided tour, and features many Grade I listed buildings such as the famous Egyptian Avenue. The East Cemetery still requires an entry fee, but is entirely self-guided. As well as Karl Marx, other notable gravesites include those of Douglas Adams, Jeremy Beadle, Malcolm McLaren and Ralph Miliband. The layout of the cemetery is particularly interesting, seemingly sculpted by nature, rather than the other way round. Add in the mysterious past of Highgate, including rumours of occultism and the Highgate Vampire, and you've got one of the most intriguing locations in Britain. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJlwbEtEc3Y
