Brothers Homer and Langley Collyer were extreme hoarders and their whole house was full of approximately 120 tons of hoarded goods. They had over 25,000 books, x ray machines and baby carriages despite the two brothers being bachelors. They lived in seclusion for their whole lives in New York City and they were both found dead in their home in 1947. Homer Collyer was found dead first after a neighbour complained of a horrible smell coming from the apartment. Police officers wasted time actually getting into the house as there wasn't any windows to break as they were protected by iron grillwork, and the doors were locked. The police had to begin pulling out the contents of the house where they found the body of Homer, who had died from starvation and heart disease. As his brother Langley didn't show up for the funeral, the police were suspicious of his whereabouts and began searching for him across nine states. However, there was still a smell eminating form the house. The police went back to discover the body of Langley, ten feet away from where Homer died. He was trapped between the contents in the house and rats had already started eating his body. It is believed that the brothers had set up booby traps to protect everything in their house and they had accidentally set them off themselves.
