24 Reasons Newcastle Is Definitely The Happiest City In The UK

21. This View

Yes it's "just bridges" but try and point out a better looking river vista in the world, it's just not possible.

20. We Grew Up On Byker Grove

There was nothing worth knowing that the mighty sage Geoff didn't teach from TV screens around the region. In fact, the show that gave Ant & Dec their start taught every Geordie child the value of relationships, good manners, incredible fashion-defying facial hair and having a laugh and jumping on a trampoline in front of a camera. What other region-specific show could boast that kind of soul-enrichment before tea time? For some reason, Southerners seem to think everyone up here claims to have been part of Geoff's gang, when the reality was that even getting an audition was impossible. With acting like this to compete with, it's not hard to see why. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXeMontXSTI

19. Everything's Cheaper

Everyone might complain that pints on a Saturday night cost close to a fiver, and that it's not like the olden days any more, but you can get a hell of a lot more of a bang for your buck in the North East. Houses cost a fraction of what they do further south, restaurants are affordable as a regular thing (especially when Newcastle Restaurant Week is on) and while the "living wage" is lower, it still feels like you get more for your pennies.
