7 Horribly Toxic Things In The Ocean That Are Scarier Than Sharks

7. Blue Ringed Octopus

Anybody like calamari? Well, maybe not from this little guy anyways. Named for the pretty obvious blue rings all across its body, this guy is found between Australia and Japan in the Indian and Pacific Ocean. They are actually pretty small - the largest out of four existing species only grows to about 20 centimetres, but that doesn€™t stop them from delivering a nasty bite. They usually eat crabs, small shrimp and the blood of unsuspecting swimmers. Well, you€™re probably going to have to get a bit up in its face, but it€™ll bite you. And after that, it€™ll still have enough venom left to kill another 25 people. The issue is, unlike a shark biting off your leg you probably won€™t even notice you€™ve been bitten until it€™s all too late. A lot of the time you won€™t even see its characteristic blue rings either, as they usually only appear right before it bites. It€™s not a particularly nice way to go€“ victims usually suffer from full body paralysis while still being completely conscious so there€™s no way to scream for help. They€™re one of the most venomous animals in the world. To make what€™s already a pretty horrifying animal worse, there€™s no anti-venom. Treatment usually centres on keeping victims alive until the symptoms have passed.
