3. Jesus Appearing On Toast/Fruit/Dog Butts

Jesus, Mary and many other prominent figures, can crop up in all kinds of places and for some reason, toast is a favourite haunt for these supernatural beings.

Whilst we can't rule out the possibility that us mortals are being visited by higher beings via the medium of breakfast items, there's a good chance that the face of Jesus is in your head, rather than on your toast. In fact, it's probably a deeply ingrained instinct that could well be responsible for your very existence - a phenomenon known as Pareidolia.

Pareidolia is an effect that causes humans to spot faces in random patterns. It is thought to be hardwired into our brains as even a baby that is less than a day old will instinctively hone in on a face. It's what causes us to see faces on Mars and Hitler in kettles and it's thought to be a survival instinct that allowed us to both evolve as a social species, and spot incoming predators in a landscape.

Faces are generally where we get most of our information from. Humans use facial expressions and talk from their faces (apart from the select few who talk out their a**), and predators use them to see you then, subsequently, to eat you. It would behoove the prehistoric human to be able to quickly and easily pick a face out of their surroundings and their ability to do so would make them more likely to survive long enough to pass the trait onto their offspring.

Fortunately, this instinct is strong enough to have led to your existence, unfortunately, it also sometimes causes people to see faces in kettles, ghosts in windows and, occasionally, Jesus on toast.
