8 Ways To Survive A Tryst With Henry VIII (According To The Women Who Did It)

8. Pass The King To Your Sister

Mary Boleyn's name is well known in popular culture today due to her portrayal in literature, film and TV. Her name was also well known in sixteenth century Europe with the French King even referring to her as 'my hackney' and 'a great slag, infamous above all.' With such a grand title, it is no surprise that Mary crossed paths with Henry VIII and quickly became his mistress. Their affair began in 1521 and lasted for several years with rumours spreading that Henry was the father of at least one of Mary's children. Mary's sister, Anne Boleyn, soon followed her to court and was quick to attract the attention of King Henry while Mary took a back seat. The story of Anne Boleyn is probably as famous as King Henry VIII himself and so needless to say, Mary had a very lucky escape.
