9 Reasons Why Tony Abbott Is The Worst Australian Prime Minister In History (And He Only Just Got The Job)
4. A British Citizen Who Arrived By Boat Wants To Stop Refugees Arriving By Boat
ARE YOU SERIOUS BRO (that reference is for WWE fans by the way)? Let's look at the history of one Tony Abbott and his wonderful ocean adventures as Captain of the High Seas. Well, his emigration history anyway. Tony Abbott was born in LONDON, ENGLAND on the 4th of November, 1957 to an English born father. His mother, although an Australian citizen at the time, was of Dutch descendants whose family emigrated BY BOAT from the Netherlands in 1912. At the tender age of two his family moved from England to Australia via the SS Oronsay, which at the time was part of the Assisted Passage Migration Scheme, a government sponsored program for not only re-population after World War 2 but as an opportunity for migrants and refugees to escape war ravaged Europe and create a new life in Australia. Thats right, Tony Abbott is one of those migrants/refugess that affectionately became known as the "Ten Dollar Poms." His family decided to escape from war ravaged Europe via a BOAT and was given government assistance to do it. THAT'S RIGHT, WELFARE! The irony is quite simply astonishing, to say the very least. Now some of you (most notably old timers) may look at that and say, "well, those were different times, the country has changed, yadda, yadda, yadda...." Ummm, in fact, no they really haven't. Allow me to grace you with some more facts. In May 2009, the Tamil Tigers were defeated by the Sri Lanka Armed Services and thus ended a civil war that had been raging since 1983. That is 26 years of war for those who aren't that good at math (like me). Now following the defeat of the rebels we had a mass explosion of boat people from Sri Lanka in the months that followed as the last remnants of displaced families and political asylum seekers made there way through hell AND high water to escape a war ravage Sri Lanka and create a new life in Australia. WAIT, WHAT? That is the same reasoning behind Tony Abbott's own families decision to move to Australia is it not? In fact, I used the same exact sentence to describe their plight, with the only edit being the country of Sri Lanka. Not to mention that the vast majority of boat people in the past decade come from either the Middle East or Northern Africa. Why not ask your friend google about what is happening over there at the moment? I guarantee you a majority of Australians (especially those who oppose onshore processing) would not bother waiting for the boat, they would just jump into the ocean and swim for it. I must be stupid as I can't see the difference between someone escaping war torn Europe by boat back in the day and escaping war torn Iraq via boat nowadays. But Tony Abbott has created an entire platform of hate and prejudice based with his policies and on his abilities to "stop the boats," whilst at the same time neglecting to remember just who in the blue hell he is and where he comes from. His whole agenda personally offends me as my paternal grandparents escaped Nazi Germany to come here and start a new life. And not only did he use people's fears and insecurities created by the "war on terror" to conduct a viscous smear campaign against the opposing parties (successfully as you can see) but his standing on this issue clearly indicates to me that he still supports a very outdated and VERY racially charged policy....
Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life????
