Best & Worst Kids Toys Of The 80s & 90s
KINDER SURPRISE
What?: The clever selling point of Kinder Egg's was that it looked like regular chocolate but was actually a toy hidden inside a chocolate shell. I think it's only fair that Humpty Dumpty explains a little about the product for you. He's way more articulate than I am. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4kHmbZTvyI Who?: OK, so Kinder Surprise was actually first sold in the 1970's but it became huge and controversial in the 1980's. Created in 1973 by Italian company Ferrero the egg consisted of two separate chambers that surrounded a plastic container inside which was hidden a toy which often required assembly. Amusement Factor: Well, let's be completely honest. There was zero amusement from the chocolate itself because it was literally one cell thick. There may as well not have even been any damn chocolate - a definite case for false advertising if ever there was one. No wonder it was described as having zero nutritional value by authorities in the US who prohibit sales of Kinder Egg's under the 1938 Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. The FDA reviewed the Kinder Surprise situation last year and remained steadfast that it would not be sold in the USA making it the worst contraband of all time. Once you get past the disappointment of zero chocolate you are left with one of the worst toys of all time. If it wasn't a pencil topper shaped like a frog then it was probably some kind of weird vehicle that required assembly and broke after 5 minutes. What an absolute con. Awesome Rating: Kinder Egg's were responsible for three infant death's this century alone. There's nothing awesome about death folks so fill your own rating in here.
